Capiz officials laud DILG 6 for initiating EXCELL awards
ROXAS CITY – Local government officials in Capiz extolled the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Western Visayas for initiating and sustaining the Excellence in Local Governance awards.
“The program is a challenge and motivator for local officials and employees to work more and perform our best while doing our programs and services for our constituents,” Panay Mayor Dante Bermejo said.
Bermejo, president of League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Capiz Chapter, said with the EXCELL Awards, everyone in the local government unit strives hard to make good in their respective departments.
Ivisan Mayor Felipe Neri Yap said it is the objective of every local government unit to excel in their endeavors.
“Everyone aspires to be the best and excel in all its programs and services. A good government is what we want to offer to our people, the reason why we are doing our best,” Yap said.
Both Bermejo and Yap said that through the EXCELL evaluation in the region, they would be given the opportunity to showcase their initiatives, achievements and innovations that have helped in the progress of their respective communities and LGUs.
“What is important in this search is the pride and honor for our people who have placed us in our respective posts and who have believed in our capacities and abilities to uplift their lives through better governance,” they said.
Started in 2008, the EXCELL Awards is a continuing project of the DILG 6 which recognizes the best managed local governments in the regions that demonstrate the best practices, achievements as well as innovations in governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management and local legislation.
The program also aims to advocate for transparency and accountability in governance, positively reinforce for good performers, popularize replicable best practices, and identify possible interventions to improve the LGU performance.*PIA
